Five offline RPGs worth the battery drain

Five offline RPGs worth the battery drain

April 16, 2026 · Marek Nowak

Offline RPGs on phones used to be a sad category, mostly ports and knockoffs. That's changed. There are now proper turn-based adventures with real stories that never ask you to log in, and they're some of the best things you can keep on a phone for travel.

Emberfall Chronicles is my current favorite. It has a full party, elemental combat, and dialogue choices that actually ripple forward. Twenty hours in and I still cared about where the story was going.

When you're picking an offline RPG, check two things: does it save locally, and does it respect your time with battles that end? Some mobile RPGs pad combat to stretch session length. The good ones trust you to play on your own schedule.

A tip from experience: lower the brightness and turn on battery saver before a long trip. These games look great but they'll chew through a charge if you let them.
