How we actually test whether a game works offline

May 15, 2026 · Marek Nowak

Store descriptions lie, or at least stretch the truth. 'Play anywhere' often means 'play anywhere with a connection.' So we built a simple routine to check every game before it goes on the site.

First we download and open it once with the connection on, so it can grab anything it needs. Then we turn on airplane mode, close the app completely, and reopen it. If it still launches and lets us play, it passes round one.

Round two is the save test. We play a chunk, close the app offline, and reopen later to check that progress stuck locally. A game that wipes your progress without a connection isn't really offline.

Finally we watch for soft nags: loading spinners that never finish, buttons that grey out, pop-ups asking you to reconnect. We note all of it so you know exactly what to expect on a plane.
